Though many countries and cultures all over the world have been dreaming up ways to celebrate moms for centuries, we can credit our own tradition to Miss Anna M. Jarvis, a Philadelphia school teacher in 1907. She and her supporters petitioned businessmen, politicians, and other influential people of her day to make celebrating and honoring mothers into a national holiday. Seven years later, President Woodrow Wilson put it on the books for the second Sunday in May, the 8th anniversary of the passing of Anna’s own mother. Since then, the celebration has traveled far and wide, influencing people of all nationalities to honor their own mothers on the same day. So Happy Mother’s Day and Všechno nejlep ší ke Dni matek!
